Description

EDIT 12/1/09: Messed with the colors a little bit and fixed up a couple lines that were bothering me. Other than that, nothing really different.

Well here's a picture of Sakura I did last night. Took me about 3 hours to do it. I finished it at like 3 am, so I decided not to upload it until now. =_= I swear Sakura's wooden sandals were a fucking BITCH to draw... -_-||| But I'm proud! It looks really good for my first time drawing a kimono, wooden sandals, sake bottles and cups, designs, and someone in a running position. Well, it looks good to me, at least... -_-

It's been a while since I last critiqued someone's work. This really deserves it. I'm going to be taking off my naruto fan art supporter hat and replacing it with my nit picky artist/asshole hat. You have been warned.

First I want to mention how proud I am of your greatly improved artistic skills. You went from doodling pencil sketches to fully coloring them in such a short time. I totally expect you to only get better in time.

Line Art Style
I love it, its very clean. Simple and direct to the point. Its not as great as the original manga but it has a life of its own. Which all fan art should strive for.

Colors
Once again very simple and easy on the eye. A little dull but still appealing.

Perspective
Very 2d-ish but contained in its own universe it works.

Suggestions & Other thoughts
Just like if a movie is without sound it feels incomplete. So is an character without a background. A good background sets the mood, timing of day/night, seasons, events/occasions etc etc. Even if you haven't ever done one, the effort would be greatly better then not trying at all. Some times misc props behind / infront of her could do the same trick. Its to help "finish" the image as a whole.

Regarding your color palette... expanding it sometimes is not always a good thing, but when you are only using 5 colors + plus black, you really should consider it. The eye can see almost a billion different shades of color. and I think it can recognize quite alot in 1 view. So to keep the eye "entertained" adding more colors usually fulfills that role. When you do characters images like this one, aim for atleast 10 or 12 colors.

Conclusion
Im very happy to see you are greatly improving your skills as an artist. The lineart is very clean and crisp. It would do you good if you started applying backgrounds. Your colors are good, but need a little more polish. Your perspective is flat but constant.

If you work on these fields you will only get vastly better in a very short time.
